PhD Candidate

WorkplaceFlemish Region, Ghent, Belgium

Job description

Chronic kidney failure is characterized by a major increase in the blood area concentration. The prolonged contact of urea with body proteins gives rise to carbamylation. This makes the proteins less functional. Phenomena such as anemia and atheroslerosis in kidney patients are attributed to carbamylation. This work aims to purify and characterize decarbamylating enzymes. The therapeutic use of decarbamylation in renal insufficiency is the final goal. Protein chemistry has a central role in this project.

Profile of the candidate

  • Candidates should have a master degree in bio-engineering, biochemistry, medicine or pharmacy - interest, affinity and ideally previous experience in protein chemistry
