The Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Ghent University, Belgium is looking for a highly motivated Ph.D. student interested in pluripotent (embryonic) stem cell research in the field reproductive medicine. The candidate will focus on the molecular characterization of the reprogrammed cells using mainly massively parallel sequencing as a tool to perform transcriptomics and (epi)genomics. The candidate will perform the data analysis, bioinformatics and statistics in this project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ph.D scientific position in stem cell research in which genomics and proteomics data analysis plays a key role. You become an expert in this field.
  • Installation, implementation and expert use of new hard- and software platforms for data analysis of genomics and proteomics data.
  • Working closely with other researchers, supporting them in this project
  • Supervision of Master thesis projects at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences

    Profile of the candidate

    A strong background and relevant experience in the areas of bio-informatics, biotechnology and/or Massively Parallel Sequencing (MPS) are a distinct advantage. A genuine interest in data mining, and bio-informatics are a prerequisite.
  • Good communication and writing skill in English are a must.
  • Knowledge of a programming language like python is an advantage
  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as MPS are an advantage
  • Affinity with statistics is an advantage
  • You are communicative, social, analytical, stress resistant and a problem solver.
