The Department of Bioscience Engineering in the Faculty of Sciences is looking for a full-time (100%) Postdoctoral fellow, domain spectro(bio)electrochemistry (2 years)
The A-Sense Lab at the University of Antwerp has an open position for a postdoc to strengthen our developments in the field of spectro(bio)electrochemistry.
The project requires a combination of approaches including electrochemistry, protein biochemistry, and spectroscopy. The selected candidate will join a productive and collaborative research group at UAntwerpen, coordinated by Prof. Karolien De Wael, who is spearheading international research on electrochemistry. The project runs in collaboration with Prof. Filip Meysman who is spearheading the international research on microbial electricity and coordinates the Center of Excellence on Microbial Systems Technology. The project targets the characterisation of a radically new class of conductive biomolecules, obtained from recently discovered cable bacteria (see ?url=www.microbial-electricity.eu&module=jobs&id=5022" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">www.microbial-electricity.eu for more information). These long bacteria harbour a conductive fiber network in that transports electrical currents in comparable way to copper wiring. The highly conductive fibers enable a completely new interface between biology and electronics, providing a promising prospect for new materials and technology. The goal is to characterize these conductive biomolecules through spectroelectrochemistry in order to achieve a deeper understanding of this new form of biological electron transport.
