Ghent University at Ghent Film Festival

Ghent University and Ghent Film Festival are teaming up to offer a unique and in-depth programme at this 44th edition of the festival, from 10 to 20 October 2017. Science café Coming out? About LGBTQ in the film A special edition of the Ghent Science Café in which Frederik Dhaenens and Sofie Van Bauwel (Department of Communication Sciences, Ghent University) each shed light, in an approachable manner, on sexual and gender diversity in film based on their own expertise. The speakers address a number of problems and, in doing so, make use of fragments from Die Büchse der Pandora (Pabst, 1929), The Children's Hour (Wyler, 1961), Plata Quemada (Piñeyro, 2000), Le Temps Qui Reste (Ozon, 2005), and 52 Tuesdays (Hyde, 2014). They will also take a look at LGBTQ coverage in the current edition of Ghent Film Festival and discuss a number of films on show during the festival in more depth. Tina De Gendt will moderate.
