Open rank professorship (extraordinary professorship or assistant professorship with tenure track) in Medical Data Science at the Department of Clinical Research (DCR) The Department of Clinical Research (DCR) is the academic core facility for patient-centered research at the University of Bern/Faculty of Medicine and Bern University Hospital (Inselspital). It offers clinical researchers full support in terms of study-related regulatory affairs, database management, study design and conduct, and data analysis. As one of Switzerland’s leading university hospital, the Inselspital hosts a large clinical data repository (Insel Data Science Center) as well as liquid and tissue biobanks. As part of its digitalization strategy and to strengthen the fastly growing field of clinical data science, the Faculty of Medicine has issued a call for an open rank professorship in Medical Data Science (MDS) located at the DCR. | |
ExigencesThe future position holder must have a strong academic background in MDS and patient-centered clinical research and proven ability to acquire competitive grants. Applicants should hold a MD degree and have additional training in mathematics/(bio)statistics or computer science or alternatively, a PhD in mathematics/biostatistics or computer science with a solid track record in patient-oriented clinical research. They are expected to collaborate with the Insel Data Science Center and other data science-related players (e.g., the Center for Artificial Intelligence [CAIM], Bern Data Science Initiative [BeDSI]) at the University of Bern/Inselspital. Applicants have the capacity to establish an internationally competitive line of clinical research related to MDS and to work together in national (e.g., the Swiss Personalized Health Network [SPHN]) and international networks. As part of the DCR and the Faculty of Medicine, the position holder will provide methodological expertise for clinical investigators and also engage in educational activities. Excellent communication skills, the willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams, and leadership qualities are necessary prerequisites.
