PhD candidate in mathematical analysis

  • You will do research in mathematical analysis in the research team "Classical Analysis" of the Analysis section Analysis of the Department of Mathematics.
  • You follow the doctoral program of the Arenberg Doctoral School.
  • You will give exercise classes in mathematics for the courses taught by members of the Department of Mathematics
  • You assist in the guidance of bachelor projects and master theses.
  • You assist in the organisation of workshops, conferences and other research  and teaching activities.


Keywords for the research project are: multiple orthogonal polynomials, random matrices, Painlevé equations, Riemann-Hilbert problems. The PhD project will be decided during the first few months of the contract. There are possibilities to do the project in collaboration with universities abroad (in particular, Radboud University, Nijmegen, The Netherlands).

The Analysis Section of the Department of Mathematics has two research teams : Functional Analysis (G. Szabo and S. Vaes) and Classical Analysis (A. kuijlaars and W. Van Assche). There are several postdoctoral researchers and Ph.D. students. Both research teams have many international contacts through research agreements and projects.

  • You have a master degree in mathematics or an equivalent degree with an important mathematics component.
  • Candidates should be fluent in English and are able to teach mathematics exercise cleasses in English.  No Dutch knowledge is required.
  • You have a keen interest in the reserach topics of the project.
