The research group InViLab of the Department of Electromechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Engineering is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in optical 3D metrology, focusing on real-time deep learning-based techniques. Position You will work actively on the preparation and defense of a Ph.D. thesis in the field of optical 3D metrology. Making fast and accurate 3D measurements of surface shapes has important applications in the medical, industrial, and entertainment sectors. You will develop a new technique that uses neural networks to improve the precision, robustness, and speed of current profilometric techniques. This research contains both a theoretical component (optimizing neural networks) and an experimental component (building an optical measurement set-up, integrating neural networks,…). You will publish scientific articles related to the research project. You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the research group InViLab. Profile You hold a degree of Master of Industrial Sciences (industrial engineer), Master of Engineering (civil engineer), Master of Physics, Master of Computer Science or equivalent, or you obtain the degree at the latest at the time of appointment. You can demonstrate excellent study results. Your teaching competencies are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision . What we offer We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of 1 year. The scholarship is renewable after positive evaluation, with a 3 times 1-year term. The planned start date is September 1st 2023 or as soon as possible after that date. Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP). You will receive ecocheques and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
