Thanks to the efforts of all teachers and supporting colleagues to provide quality education, 6.763 graduates could be send off digitally on Friday 9 October, culminating in a projection of all names on the Book Tower.
COVID-19 caused the physical proclamations, which traditionally take place in July and September, to be postponed. But in anticipation of that, we already waved our graduates off digitally. During a show for all graduates, student-wise looked back on the past year and recognizable stories were told.
Comedian Erhan Demirci acted as host and collaborated with Joost Van Hyfte, Griet Dobbelaere, Latif Ait, Devoo Beatbox and many committed recent graduates from Ghent University.
As the apotheosis of the show, the names of all 6,763 graduates were projected onto the Boekentoren after the closing speech by Rector Rik Van de Walle.
A farewell moment is not a solemn proclamation
The digital farewell moment did not replace the physical proclamations: each faculty will organize a physical meeting on its own initiative and when it is safe to do so, complete with a gown and cap.
