In the framework of the ERC Starting Grant-project HUMYCO ( ?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ugent.be%2Fen%2Fnews-events%2Ferc-starting-grants-2020.htm&module=jobs&id=4466" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.ugent.be/en/news-events/erc-starting-grants-2020.htm ), a PhD-position is available for a highly motivated scientist at the Centre of Excellence in Mycotoxicology & Public Health (FW03, ?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ugent.be%2Ffw%2Fbioanalysis%2Fen%2Fresearch%2Fcemph&module=jobs&id=4466" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.ugent.be/fw/bioanalysis/en/research/cemph ) under supervision of Prof. dr. Marthe De Boevre. The PhD-research is part of the ERC-project HUMYCO where chronic exposure to multiple mycotoxins is hypothesized to be associated with a higher risk to develop human cancers. The PhD-trajectory comprises the identification of new mycotoxin biomarkers of exposure and effect through the investigation of in vivo large-scale epidemiological cohorts both in Europe as in Africa. A final part of the PhD-trajectory consists of the risk evaluation on mycotoxin exposure and human cancer development in both Europe as Africa, as well as identifying possible other links using the cohort-data by applying a poly-omic approach. The ultimate findings of the PhD-study will form the backbone of the ERC-project and the research line on clinical mycotoxicology.
We are searching for a PhD-researcher, who will reside at Ghent University (Belgium), and will join the ERC-research team of Prof. dr. Marthe De Boevre in a challenging and inspiring environment. Besides the PhD-thesis, a subscription to ’Doctoral Schools’ is obliged: the PhD-student will obtain an additional diploma-supplement by following specialized courses, conferences among others.

Job profile

- You have a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Bioscience Engineering or equivalent;

• You have a strong interest in human bioanalysis;
• You have hands-on experience in analyses using liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and high-resolution MS;
• You have experience in data-interpretation on the abovementioned techniques;
• You have a passion for big-data management;
• Excellent English writing and communication skills are mandatory;
• You want to work in a multi-disciplinary, international and intellectually challenging environment;
• You are flexible, responsible and able to work independently as well as in team;
• Eager to work in a team of researchers at Ghent University and international partners;
• You are willing to take opportunities for international mobility (3 to 6 months) to broaden your international network.
