Salaries by sector

The sector in which we work strongly determines our salary. The highest average salaries are in the petrochemical industry, with an average gross salary of EUR 6,431. Some sectors pay well above the national average. Managers in the manufacturing industry have some of the highest salaries, up to EUR 6,314 per month gross. Accommodation and food services, on the other hand, are among the lowest-paying, with gross monthly salaries around 2,611 EUR, largely occupied by young workers under the age of 25.

Studying is a good guarantee of a high salary

The longer you study, the higher your salary. Bachelor’s degree holders earn 6% more than the Belgian average. For holders of a Master’s degree, the gap rises to 46%. Conversely, workers with no higher education generally earn less than the average.

Your region of work influences your salary

People who work in central Belgium are more likely to earn a high salary. The Brussels-Capital Region tops the list with an average monthly salary of EUR 4,748, 16% higher than the national average. The average salary is also higher than 4250 EUR in companies located in the capital’s arrondissements, namely Hal-Vilvorde, Louvain and Nivelles. The lowest salary is found in the district of Dinant.
